The fourth task - Week 7 (27 June - 3 July)

Dear TAs

We are taking a week's break as the first part of  workshop 6 (learning facilitation) has already been completed. We will be uploading the preliminary evaluation of your presentations early next week.

During the third term, we will arrange to view one complete lesson for each TA but we will remind you before that time.In the meantime , go over all the tasks you have already covered so far.

When you get time, visit the workshop 6 blog space to go over what was presented for this workshop.

We will resume our tasks on  03 July 2013.

Your third task - Week 6 ( 20 - 26 June)

Dear TAs

By now you are either mastering this process of learning or feeling overwhelmed or demotivated.
Don't lose heart and keep going on. So far, most of you are on track and are doing very well .

Keep up the good work ! 

The workshop 4 team have revised task 4 so that it  can be completed this week.
Please visit the Workshop 4 blog page and try to complete this task.

Task 4


Design an online teaching/instructional event  or a short lesson which incorporates what you learnt in the face-to-face training session.  The lesson should not be very long,  but should have some of the basic elements of educational design ( an outcome statement, an introduction , some  learning activity and possibly some means of assessing the learning taking place).

How are you expected to complete this task ?

Within your project site, create one page, and one sub-page around a specific lesson. Remember to link to relevant resources and multimedia.

N.B. In your blog space, insert a link to your project site so that we can have a look at  your created page and subpage.

Remember:You have already created the shell of your project lesson

The deadline for this task is the 27 June 2013.

Your second task - Week 5 ( 14 -19 June)

Dear TAs

Thank you for  posting your first tasks for those of you who have done so. If you still have problems, kindly contact Tasneem to assist you.
You will be receiving comments on your tasks shortly.
All your tasks should be posted on to your blog space .


What is expected of you this week?

This week you are expected  to complete two main activities:
  • Complete task 3  and post it on to your blog space.
  • Visit at least on other TA's blog and  provide a brief comment on their first task in terms of how it is presented and whether  they have addressed the objectives of the task. 
The deadline for task 3 is Thursday 20 June 2013.

* Start thinking about how you are going to approach task 4. We will be providing additional instructions.
* Also , visit Dr John Swanepoel's blog space to see what he has written about his teaching philosophy.

Reminder : your first task - Week 4 ( 7 - 13 June)

Task 1 : Reflect on your teaching context by completing the following tasks


Task 1a

Briefly describe your teaching context by identifying factors which characterize teaching and
learning at UWC.(Your narrative should not exceed 500 words).

*Once you have posted your narrative on-line,solicit  input and comments from one colleague ( a TA). Also comment on one other TAs description.


Task 1b

What  principles  guide the teaching of your subject area? Discuss this with your coordinator
and peers. Locate  2- 3 papers demonstrating good teaching practice in your discipline and use them in supporting  the principles  you have identified. Summarize this (should not exceed 500 words).



Task 1c

What is the difference between your roles and responsibilities as a TA and those of a lecturer?

Please make sure these reflections  are uploaded as blog entries by the 13 June 2013. Remember to keep printed copies for your portfolio of evidence.

Your second task - Week 3 ( 31 May - 6 June)

Dear TAs,

Thank you for starting with your blogs and attending all these workshops. We know that we were not able to spread these workshops out evenly over the year as we had wanted to, but we do hope that you are finding the learning in these workshops meaningful and useful

What is expected of you this week ?

Task 4 : ( Check the details of the task on the workshop page). Refer to the contents of Workshop 4 in which you were introduced to our new Learner Management System (IKAMVA).
Use this information to complete task 4. Do not hesitate to seek help from your workshop facilitators.

Task 4 

Design an online teaching /instructional event which displays the relevant communication and assessment tasks linked to appropriate pedagogocal practices.

The deadline for your second reflection is Thursday 27 June 2013.
